West Vernon Avenue Elementary Home

West Vernon Avenue Elementary School is located in South Central Los Angeles just 5 miles south of Downtown Los Angeles.  We are  privileged to be situated in one of Los Angeles' most historical neighborhoods.  We are within walking distance to Exposition Park which houses The Los Angeles Sports Arena, The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, The California Science Center and IMAX Theatre, The Rose Garden, and  The Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.  We are also close to the University of Southern California (USC) and work with the department of Education at USC and Troy Camp.  We work with and encourage our families to take advantage of these resources to provide our students with culturally relevant experiences and concepts that students are expected to know by using their cultural knowledge.  We strongly believe that students learn through and remember prior experiences, frames of reference, and unique learning styles relevant and effective for them.
